DiGi iPhone 4 Me

When I started this blog, the intention is always to write a more up-lifting story, and share more happy endomorphism throughout the Internet community.

Recently, Nuffnang, the great community that creates opportunities for passion bloggers like me to try to make big bucks in life teams up with Digi, whom I am a loyal customer, is offering a chance to win the iPhone!

I am not normally the forerunner nor early adopter of technology gadgets in my life, but all the fiesta about friends and family taking numbers and lining up for the iPhone which was being launch just a couple days ago do leave me intrigue.

I did a few googling and notice that Digi does offer the best iPhone package in town, which starts from RM58 only. The Yellow Man did it again! In terms of value in making calls, price of the contracts, sms, mms, and the price of the phone, Digi seems to be the smarter choice. Take a peek at this post!

Well, iPhone is cool...I always like the aesthetic design sense of Apple, however the expensive price of a leading technology does put me off sometimes. With Digi, I guess most gadgets enthusiast or even the late adopter like me can be in the front line of experiencing this innovation with more affordable price! This is how life should be, because I am worth it! LOL!

Finally, think I am almost fully recovered. No vomiting..no more diarrhea...just felt bit tiring...probably from traveling to and fro K.L to home and going out for classes/adventures even before I recovered fully...am going back home again tomorrow...to do my final round of ortho-putting on retainer...

It's amazing I can feel so at ease without a job...I guess there come a point where after working and studying for some years, and complaining about wanting to have a break finally is here...guess I wasn't as anxious as I was, trying to fill my life with activities...this time around...really just rest...doing the things I really enjoy about. It may really sound useless...but this is the time when dreaming become a reality and we should embrace it more gracefully...travel all you want, dream all you want, lazy around all you want...coz sooner or later, we need to be serious again..and by then, life goes on...and no longer living a life and thinking about another...live for the moment.

Sometimes we ask ourselves too much questions that we felt paralyzed with uncertainty and fear to do what we ought to do and tend to feel.

At my age now, after so many failures (mainly coming from a few after grad exams), I finally got it, why people with so much credentials are more fearful and sensitive with how and what they do and the response they get. This is mainly because they think they have much to protect and much to lose.

I know how it feels and I know how bad it can be. From now on, I choose to leave truthfully, more truthfully than what I can. If it is not meant to be, so be it. All the glories are tying me down and weighting me down more than I ever have imagine. At least, I know who can I refer to as a model guidance...be truthful with yourself, and the world will be true to you.

The partial first derivative is very common in risk measurement. It appears in various asset classes and metrics; e.g., option delta, bond duration, risk contribution, marginal value at risk (marginal VaR)
The first derivative is an instantaneous rate of change; i.e., the limiting ratio illustrated by the convergence of a secant line to a tangent line.
We looked at some basic differentiation rules (e.g., power rule).
I highly recommend the excellent, free calculus resources at www.analyzemath.com. My favorite calculus texts are The Calculus Lifesaver: All the Tools You Need to Excel at Calculus (Princeton Lifesaver Study Guides) and Calculus Know-It-ALL: Beginner to Advanced, and Everything in Between by Stan Gibilisco. I also like the affordable Schaum's Outline of Calculus.
We looked at a handy idea: The first derivative of the natural log of a function equals the function’s growth rate or relative rate of change: if f(x) = ln g(x), f’(x) = g’(x)/g(x).
Given the price function of a 30-year zero-coupon bond under continuous discounting, p(y) = 100*EXP(-y*30), we showed that the first derivative is the dollar duration: p’(y) = –3000*EXP(-y*30). Further, while duration has various specific "flavors," all are variations on (functions of) this first derivative dollar duration. For example, by dividing by price [i.e., p(y)], we produce the modified/Macaulay duration of 30.
It is helpful to be mindful of the axis units. In the case of dollar duration, our first derivative at 5% yield was about –670. What are the units? In this case (i.e., dollar duration), this refers to –670 $/%. Specifically, 670 dollars in price change for a one-unit (100 basis point) change in yield. Still confused about duration units? See the comments to this post.
The option delta is a first derivative; i.e., the change in call price with respect to a change in stock price. What are the units in this case? Since we have dollars (option price on y axis) divided by dollars (stock price on x axis), they cancel and option delta is unitless.
We applied the first derivative rule to confirm that (i) futures contract delta is EXP(r*t) and (ii) the Eurodollar futures contract implies a $25 dollar change for each one basis point move.
Finally, I hope I succeeding in conveying the one big idea underlying this webinar. We may characterize portfolios as responding to (mapped to) a set of underlying risk factors (the call option analogy: the value of the call option reacts to risk factors such as volatility and interest rates). The partial first derivative returns a linear approximation of the portfolio’s sensitivity to an underlying risk factor.
Phillip made an excellent point about the key weakness of the first derivative linear approximation: is it is only locally accurate; the larger the change in the underlying factor, the less accurate it becomes.

1. A typical bond price/yield curve plots (maps) the bond price (the dependent variable on the y-axis) to the bond yield (independent variable on the x-axis). For a plain-vanilla bond (without embedded options), what is the proper name for the first derivative of the bond’s price with respect to yield? Can we say anything about its value as yield decreases/increases (e.g., positive increasing)?

The first derivative is the dollar duration, not duration.
Duration = -(1/P)*dP/dy such that the first derivative (dP/dy) = -Duration*Price = -DP. This is called the dollar duration.

In the case of a typical “plain-vanilla” bond (no embedded options), the price/yield curve is concave up: at low yields, the slope of the tangent line (dollar duration) is typically large and negative. As the yield increases, the slope increases; i.e., the dollar duration remains negative but becomes approaches zero as it increases.

2. A callable bond exhibits negative convexity at low yields (why?). We visually recognize negative convexity by its arching back; but how is negative convexity characterized in mathematical (derivative) terms?

Duration is the slope of the tangent line; Convexity is a function of the rate of change in the slope. Specifically, convexity is the second derivative of the bond price with respect to the yield of the bond, divided by bond price. In the case of a typical “plain-vanilla” bond (no embedded options), convexity is positive; i.e., the price-yield curve is concave upward such that dollar duration is increasing (the rate of change of dollar duration = positive = positive convexity).

Mathematically, a bond with negative convexity is characterized by, at its segment’s beginning, an inflection point; i.e., the point at which the second derivative (acceleration) is zero. This is where the price/yield curve (e.g., a mortgage-backed security) changes from concave upward to concave downward. Further, the negative convexity is reflected in dollar duration that is decreasing with yield instead of increasing.

3. Under continuous discounting, the price of a bond with face value (F) and maturity of (n) years is a function of yield (y): Price (P) = F*EXP[-y*n]. What is the first partial derivative of this bond’s price with respect to yield? If we divide this quantity itself by price(y), what do we get?

If P = F*EXP[-y*n],
then
dP/dy = F*EXP[-y*n]*(-n) = -(F)(n)*EXP[-y*n]
This is the dollar duration of a zero-coupon bond under continuous discounting.

Since P = F*EXP[-y*n], if we divide this dollar duration by price, we get:
-(F)(n)*EXP[-y*n] / (F*EXP[-y*n]) = -n
Which is the negative of the modified/Macaulay duration!

For example, if n = 30, then this is a 30-year zero-coupon bond and, under continuous compounding, the modified/Macaulay duration is 30.

4. Under the Black-Scholes-Merton, the price of a European call option (c) is a function of several risk factors (note I called them ‘risk factors’) including stock price (S), strike price (K), volatility (sigma), interest rate (r), and term to maturity (t). What is called the first partial derivative of the call price with respect to stock price? with respect to volatility? with respect to interest rate? with respect to term?

The first partial derivative of the call price with respect to stock price is delta; delta = dc/dS
The first partial derivative of the call price with respect to volatility is vega; vega = dc/dSigma
The first partial derivative of the call price with respect to interest rate is rho; rho = dc/drate
The first partial derivative of the call price with respect to term (maturity) is theta; theta = dc/dterm

5. The bond plot (above) maps price (the dependent variable) to yield (the independent variable). What are the units of the first derivative, in the case of the bond? Under the assumption of continuous discounting, what are the units of a modified/Macaulay duration?

The units of the first derivative (dollar duration) are $/%.
The units of the modified/Macaulay duration, only under this continuous discounting assumption are $/$ and therefore are unitless (they are elasticities).
See Alex’s comments at the bottom of this post for great elaboration on the units implied by various duration metrics.

6. In the case of the European call option delta, if calculate option delta = 0.7, what are the units? What does it mean to assert that the delta of a call option is 0.7?

In the webinar, I suggested that it is helpful to be mindful of the axes; e.g., in the case of a bond, the y-axis is bond price and the x-axis is yield, such that the units of dollar duration are price($)/yield(%).

In the case of option delta, the axes are both dollars ($). The first derivative (delta) is therefore unitless as the dollars cancel.

7. How can a short position in 1,000 options be made delta neutral when the delta of each option is 0.7? [Hull 14.2]
You may need the following background:
1. position delta = delta multiplied by number of options; e.g., 1,000 options with a delta of 0.4 each implies a position delta of 400.
2. A share has a delta of 1.0, and
3. to make the position delta neutral is to make the total position delta equal to zero.

A short position in 1,000 options (where the per option delta = 0.7) has a position delta = - 700.
Because an outright share a delta of 1.0, the net position can be delta neutralized by purchasing (going long) 700 shares.

8. Why does a share have a delta of 1.0? Can you visualize that with a graph (even if it’s a little silly)?

Becase dS/dS = 1.0. The visualization could be a 45 degree line plotting change in share price (y-axis) against change in share price (x-axis).

9. If we succeed in making the short position above delta neutral, what does that imply about the position?

The delta hedge is not a complete hedge. The delta neutral position only applies for a relatively short period of time. And for small changes in the stock price, since the delta hedge is based only a linear approximation,

10. Is the delta neutral position perfectly hedged? If not, why not? Can you say that in mathematical (derivative) terms?

See above, the delta hedge is not nearly perfectly hedged. In mathematical terms, the hedge ineffectiveness is illustrated by the difference (the gap) between the tangent line and the non-linear call option price function.

11. The CAPM says Expected [return] = Riskless rate + (beta)*(equity risk premium). What is the first derivative of the expected return with respect to to a change in the equity risk premium (ERP)? With respect to a change in beta?

If E[r] = rf + (beta)(ERP), then

dE[r]/dERP = beta, and
dE[r]/dbeta = ERP

12. In the bond example above, dollar/Macaulay/modified durations are all first derivatives (or functions of the first derivative). What does it mean when we insist that a limitation of duration is that it is only locally accurate?

That duration only gives us the bond price change (for a given yield change) when the change is very small.

As with univariate inferences, we expect sampling fluctuation/variation. In theory, there is one population regression function (PRF) but several sample regression functions (SRF). It is important to see: we assume an unknowable population; we take a sample to learn something about the popluation. As samples vary, so do sample statistics. How to characterize the inevitable variation ("fluctuation" in Gujarati's term)? We can use a distribution to describe (characterize) unavoidable variation in the sample statistic.
Note the correspondence: the PRF contains population parameters (slope, intercept) while the SRF contains estimators.
What is linear in linear regression? We require linearity in the parameters (slope, intercept) but we do not require linearity in the variable(s); i.e., X^2 is okay!

遼寧北部有一個中等城市，鐵嶺，

你可以看到一個老頭兒推著豆腐車慢慢走著，
車上的蓄電池喇叭發出清脆的女聲：
賣豆腐，正宗的鹵水豆腐！豆腐咧──"

那聲音是我的。

那個老頭兒，是我的爸爸。

爸爸是個啞吧。

直到長到二十幾歲的今天，
我才有勇氣把自己的聲音放在爸爸的豆腐車上，
替換下他手裡搖了幾十年的銅鈴兒鐺。

兩三歲時我就懂得了有一個啞吧爸爸是多麼的屈辱，
因此我從小就恨他。

當我看到有的小孩兒被媽媽使喚著過來買豆腐
卻拿起豆腐不給錢不給豆兒就跑，
爸爸伸直脖子也喊不出聲的時候，
我不會像大哥一樣追上那孩子揍兩拳，
我傷心地看著那情景，不吱一聲，
我不恨那孩子，只恨爸爸是個啞吧。

盡管我的兩個哥哥每次幫我梳頭都疼得我呲牙咧嘴，
我也還是堅持不再讓爸爸給我紮小辮兒了。

媽媽去世的時候沒有留下大幅遺照,
只有出嫁前和鄰居阿姨的一張合影，黑白的二寸片兒，
爸爸被我冷淡的時候

於是腿腳麻利的大哥二哥大嫂二嫂都來了，
看著渾身是血不省人事的我哭成一團，亂了陣腳。

最後趕來的爸爸撥開人群，
抱起已被人們斷定必死無疑的我，
攔住路旁一輛大汽車，
他用腿扛著我的身體，
騰出手來從衣袋裡摸出一大把賣豆腐的零錢塞到司機手裡，
然後不停地劃著十字，請求司機把我送到醫院搶救。

嫂子說，
一生懦弱的爸爸，那個時候，顯出無比的堅強和力量！

在認真地清理傷口之後，醫生讓我轉院，
並暗示哥哥們，我已沒有搶救價值，
因為當時的我，幾乎量不到血壓，腦袋被撞得像個癟葫蘆。

爸爸扯碎了大哥絕望之間為我買來的喪衣，
指著自己的眼睛，伸出大拇指，比劃著自己的太陽穴，
又伸出兩個手指指著我，再伸出大拇指，搖搖手，閉閉眼，那意思是：
"你們不要哭，我都沒哭，你們更不要哭，你妹妹不會死的，
她才20多歲，她一定行的，我們一定能救活她！"

醫生仍然表示無能為力，他讓大哥對爸爸說:
這姑娘沒救了，即使要救，
也要花好多好多的錢，就算花了好多錢，
也不一定能行。"

爸爸一下子跪在地上，又馬上站起來，指指我，
高高揚揚手，再做著種地、喂豬、割草、推磨桿的姿勢，
然後掏出已經掏空的衣袋兒，再伸出兩只手反反正正地比劃著，那意思
是說： "求求你們了，救救我女兒，我女兒有出息，了不起，你們一定要救
她。
我會掙錢交醫藥費的，
我會喂豬、種地、做豆腐，
我有錢，我現在就有四千塊錢。"

醫生握住他的手，
搖搖頭，
表示這四千塊錢是遠遠不夠的。

爸爸急了，
他指指哥哥嫂子，緊緊握起拳頭，表示：
"我還有他們，我們一起努力，我們能做到。"

見醫生不語，
他又指指屋頂，低頭跺跺腳，
把雙手合起放在頭右側，閉上眼，表示：
"我有房子，可以賣，我可以睡在地上，就算是傾家盪產，我也要我女兒
活過來。"

又指指醫生的心口，把雙手放平，表示：
"醫生，請您放心，我們不會賴帳的。
錢，我們會想辦法。"

大哥把爸爸的手語哭著翻譯給醫生，
不等譯完，
看慣了生生死死的醫生已是淚流滿面。

他那疾速的手勢，深切而準確的表達，誰見了都會淚下！

醫生又說：
"即使作了手術，也不一定能救好，萬一下不來手台…"
爸爸肯定地一拍衣袋，再平比一下胸口，意思是說：
"你們盡力搶救，即使不行，錢一樣不少給，我沒有怨言。"

偉大的父愛，
不僅支撐著我的生命，
也支撐起醫生搶救我的信心和決心。

我被推上手術台。

爸爸守在手術室外，
他不安地在走廊裡來回走動，竟然磨穿了鞋底！
他沒有掉一滴眼淚，
卻在守候的十幾個小時間起了滿嘴大泡！
他不停地混亂地做出拜佛、祈求天主的動作，懇求上蒼給女兒生命！

天也動容！我活了下來。

但半個月的時間裡，
我昏迷著，
對爸爸的愛沒有任何感應。

這期間，為了籌齊醫療費，
爸爸走遍他賣過豆腐的每一個村子，
他用他半生的忠厚和善良贏得了足以讓他的女兒穿過生死線的支持，
鄉親們紛紛拿出錢來，
而父親也毫不馬虎，
用記豆腐帳的鉛筆歪歪扭扭卻認認真真的記下來：
張三柱20元 ,李剛 100元王大嫂 65元.............

半個月後的一個清晨，我終於睜開眼睛，我看到一個瘦得脫了形的老
頭，他張大嘴巴，因為看到我醒來而驚喜地哇啦哇啦大聲叫著，滿頭
白發很快被激動的汗水濡濕。

爸爸，我那半個月前還黑著頭髮的爸爸，半個月，老去二十年！

我剃光的頭發慢慢長出來了，爸爸撫摩著我的頭，慈祥地笑著，曾
經，這種撫摩對他而言是多麼奢侈的享受啊。

等到半年後我的頭發勉勉強強能紮成小刷子的時候，我牽過爸爸的
手，讓他為我梳頭，爸爸變得笨拙了，他一絲一縷地梳著，卻半天也
梳不出他滿意的樣子來。

我就紮著亂亂的小刷子坐上爸爸的豆腐車改成的小推車上街去。

有一次爸爸停下來，轉到我面前，做出抱我的姿勢，又做個拋的動
作，然後捻手指表示在點錢，原來他要把我當豆腐賣嘍！我故意捂住
臉哭，爸爸就無聲地笑起來，隔著手指縫兒看他，他笑得蹲在地上。

這個遊戲，一直玩兒到我能夠站起來走路為止。

現在，除了偶爾的頭疼外，我看上去十分健康。

爸爸因此得意不已！我們一起努力還完了欠債，
爸爸也搬到城裡和我一起住了，
只是他勤勞了一生，實在閑不下來，
我就在附近為他租了一間小棚屋做豆腐坊。

爸爸做的豆腐，香香嫩嫩的，塊兒又大，大家都願意吃。

我給他的豆腐車裝上蓄電池的喇叭，
盡管爸爸聽不到我清脆的叫賣聲，
但他是知道的，
每當他按下按鈕，
他就會昂起頭來，滿臉的幸福和知足，
對我當年的歧視竟然沒有絲毫的記恨，
以致於我都不忍向他懺悔了。

我常想：
人間充滿了愛的交響，
我們傾聽、表達、感受、震撼，
然而
我的啞吧父親卻讓我懂得，

Someof you may already know that I travel around the region pretty
frequently, having to visit and conduct seminars at my offices
inMalaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Suzhou (China). I am in the
airport almost every other week so I get to bump into many people
who have attended my seminars or have read my books.

Recently, someone came up to me on a plane to KL and looked rather
shocked. He asked,'How come a millionaire like you is travelling
economy?' My reply was,'That's why I am a millionaire.' He still
looked pretty confused. Thisagain confirms that greatest lie ever told
about wealth (which I wrote about in my latest book 'Secrets of Self
Made Millionaires'). Many people have been brainwashed to think that
millionaires have to wearGucci, Hugo Boss, Rolex, and sit on first
class in air travel. This is why so many people never become rich
because the moment that earn more money, they think that it is only
natural that they spend more, putting them back to square one.

The truth is that most self-made millionaires are frugal and only
spend on what is necessary and of value. That is why they are able
to accumulate and multiply their wealth so much faster. Over thelast 7
years, I have saved about 80% of my income while today I save only
about 60% (because I have my wife, mother in law, 2 maids, 2 kids,etc.
to support). Still, it is way above most people who save 10% of
their income (if they are lucky). I refuse to buy a first class ticket
or to buy a $300 shirt because I think that it is a complete waste
ofmoney. However, I happily pay $1,300 to send my 2-year old daughter
to Julia Gabriel Speech and Drama without thinking twice.

When I joined the YEO (Young Entrepreneur's Organization) a few
years back(YEO is an exclusive club open to those who are under 40 and
make over $1m a year in their own business) I discovered that those
who were self-made thought like me. Many of them with net worths
well over $5m, travelled economy class and some even drove Toyota's
and Nissans (notAudis, Mercs, BMWs).

I noticed that it was only those who never had to work hard to build
their own wealth (there were also a few ministers' and tycoons' sons
in the club) who spent like there was no tomorrow.Somehow, when you
did not have to build everything from scratch, you do not really
value money. This is precisely the reason why a family'swealth (no
matter how much) rarely lasts past the third generation.Thank God my
rich dad (oh no! I sound like Kiyosaki) foresaw this terrible
possibility and refused to give me a cent to start my business.

Then some people ask me, 'What is the point in making so much money
if you don't enjoy it?' The thing is that I don't really find
happiness in buying branded clothes, jewellery or sitting first
class. Even if buying something makes me happy it is only for a
while, it does not last. Material happiness never lasts, it just
give you a quick fix.After a while you feel lousy again and have to
buy the next thing which you think will make you happy. I always
think that if you need material things to make you happy, then you
live a pretty sad and unfulfilled life.

Instead, what make ME happy is when I see my childrenl aughing and
playing and learning so fast. What makes me happy is when I see by
companies and trainers reaching more and more people every year in
so many more countries. What makes me really happy is when I read
all the emails about how my books and seminars have touched and
inspired someone's life. What makes me really happy is reading all
your wonderful posts about how this BLOG is inspiring you. This
happinessmakes me feel really good for a long time, much much more
than what a Rolex would do for me.

I think the point I want to put across is that happiness must come
from doing your life's work (be in teaching,building homes, designing,
trading, winning tournaments etc.) and the money that comes is only
a by-product. If you hate what you are doing and rely on the money
you earn to make you happy by buying stuff, thenI think that you are
living a life of meaningless.

A very successful Singaporean lawyer parked his brand new Porsche Carrera GT in front of the office, ready to show it off to his colleagues.

Tomorrow will be the start of a term. Was looking through the pile of work and assignments through the school intranet and my heart just have this 2 different heart beats about it, eagerness and anxiousness.

Eagerness to prepare early for the term and anxiousness of the amount of work to be done.

Eventually I didn't start any work until today...procastination and laziness seems to be the theme of my life nowadays...

In anticipation of us turning 28 this , the feeling of doom came.

Think I no longer know what I want in life...I know I want a good life-materially and spiritually...but I no longer feeling like working for it...I am sick and tired of working hard for life to earn things...why can't we just enjoy the life we have and still have a good life? or is it because as we grow old, we become less and less immune to hard work or too sick and tired of it? Maybe it is just me...but it does scare me.

How's your celebration? What's your resolutions?

I was not thinking about it till last night. I can't fall asleep last night and starts having thoughts roaming in my mind...eventually woke up and get myself a pen and few piece of papers to write down what and how I felt for the coming and several wish list for the .

I don't know how many of the resolution I will keep this but it sure soothens my mind (or tired my mind into sleep) to put things down.

However, I also find the tendency to not do anything on the list if I wrote it down...maybe it's because I felt I have written them down and if I didn't reach those wish list, it meant i have tried?

It sure is somekind of hypothesies fallacy...

Anyhow, I broke 1 of the wish list this morning...I am suppose to attend workship today and I didn't.. there is 1 this evening..but I guess I am not going either...

I am such a jerk sometimes...huh...so does the attending Japanese Language Class last Saturday...God, I am really becoming lazier these days.

The older I get, the lazier and the space to be left alone or be alone is growing more and more everyday...what is happening?

I sure hope I didn't become like Alina in the future or some useless person in the future...

You see I feel like I must contribute to the world in someway and not just do things for money or our own benefits but laziness is getting in the way...

I guess in a way, I am using laziness as an excuse to get away from the pressure I felt...of not performing or being the best...I am always a chicken of comparison...if I felt I can't compete against others, I'll get pretty ellusive and non-responsive to the environment around me...maybe just to avoid the feeling of getting hurt.

Gosh, sorry for the long email...felt that you have become more and more like my psycologist, haha..my appology if I bored you..

Hi girl,

How's life? When you guys going to Singapore?

My final exam will end at 19Dec08, now still have 2 projects to complete...am feeling a bit tired and out of steam to complete it.

Argh...tired...just wish we can have more rest here, hate the competition in class. We are suppose to have fun learning...not stress right.

Today, one of the visiting professor ask us this normal but a questions that I have not been thinking about for sometime...and he asks us to answer in 5 second time.

1. What is your goal in life?

2. What is love?

Seriously, can anyone answer them seriously in 5 sec?

I am wondering about the questions why people are always not satisfied with what they have again.

Why the grass seems always to be greener on the other side?

How can we appreciate what we have more here and now?

Why do we always have to look forward to the future in anticipation?

Why do we always have to look backward for remisniscence of good time, good memories?

You must think I am crazy if I tell you I miss the time working...yea..the job and work we always complain about.

I miss the freedom felt after work, I miss the time we hang out and have dinner, soup or movie after work, complaining about our job and work.

Miss the time we go shopping during weekend...somehow, studying is a complete defferent thing, you gotta watch yourself even after school or during weekend...

It's been only 2 months, but I already felt so tired...maybe I am getting old and the zeal to become better or more successful is diminishing...it's scary sometimes...

I've decided to take 1 month off from school next spring break (March08), not sure yet if I want to do field study or research yet, but at this moment, I'm thinking of taking that break to travel.

Am so tired now. Why? I don't know, just don't feel like doing anything but sleep. I can't do that but I am feeling that. Shit. Anyone have any cure for laziness?

Today in class, one professor want us to think about these 2 questions and answer them in 5 seconds:-

1. What is your goal in life?
2. What is love?

No, it is not philosophy class, it's knowledge management class.
I can't answer them in 5 seconds. I just wonder why people always do not appreciate what they have until it's gone and why does the pasture in the other end always looks greener?

I really miss my friends...I want to go home. I felt that my effort in doing my homework and assignments were wasted. I've spent the whole night finishing up my assignments but unable to utter a single word in the class. huh...it sucks! I tell myself that it does not matter as I know that life is not fair and we will not always get the chance to speak in class and it's really a stupid thing to do to lose my self-confidence because the professor just don't want to hear what it's in your mind.

I guess 27 years of living to my best and always has been my best has faced a road block here, not because I'm lazy, less intelligent or something but it's the same thing as happened in our everyday life, that no men is an island, no matter how talented, how smart you are, if you are not up to the society par, what ever it might be defined as, example: rich enough, pretty enough, lucky enough, know enough people, articulate enough, social enough, you are not likely to make it to success by your own effort. It is possible, just harder and take longer time.

I'm tired of this feeling. I just want to go home now and don't feel like doing anything. So what if I prepare like hell? Sleep for 3 hours? I'm not going to get any fucking A coz I have to rely on other people to determine my grade. So what it I score for the rest of the 30% for mid term or final? The bulk of the grading still come from class participation, I will be laughing my way to the bank already as long as I don't get a C. Can I say this is introvert discrimination? They are trying to discriminate people who are introvert, don't have much confidence in speaking out in class and etc. I find that I didn't improve on my weakness and nor does enhance my strength...ahh...screw...

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.

The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs.

When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor.

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.

'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk. 'I want to be in the Bahamas , driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.'
Puff!: She's gone.

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

A turkey was chatting with a bull.

'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.'

'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients.'

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.

Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

Lesson 6

A little bird was flying south for the winter.. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.

While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.

The dung was actually thawing him out!

He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.

Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Moral of the story:
(1) Not everyone who s # its on you is your enemy.

(2) Not everyone who gets you out of s # it is your friend..

(3) And when you are in deep s # it, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

It feels like it has been ages since I've been here in Tokyo. Time crawl by everyday but yet it has been 50 days since I am here. Odaiba is really a very beautiful city, too bad that we have been so busy that we do not have the time to enjoy the scenery here.

Sometimes while flipping through my friends face book of the photo taken while they visit Japan, I envy them much coz they actually been to more interesting places in 1 week compared to my 7 weeks here in Japan.

I wish that the classes will slow down more and there will be more time for us to catch a good night sleep and perhaps a stroll in the cities here.

yea, I am not doing that well here, the above mentioned didn't happen and the opposite does happen. Really am feeling very depressed here. This is definitely not happening. Maybe what they said is true, past performance does not mean everything or anything...Well, I just can't believe that all this is happening.

I am really wondering what am I doing here? I should have taken up the scholarship for my MSc than a MBA, I really am not cut up to speak or participate actively in class, it has been a depressing week here...maybe I should not try so hard so that I feel better when I get bad results, at least no effort is wasted here.

Damn, why I have to worry about speaking up in class everyday? This is so ridiculous... why am I being so pessimist all the time, I want to share happy news very much here but it seems impossible to do that...and I wonder why...

Once upon a time in a village in India , a man announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The villagers seeing there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them.

The man bought thousands of monkeys at $10 each, but, as the supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their efforts. The man further announced that he would now buy at $20 each. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.

Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer rate increased to $25 per monkey and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch one!

Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it.

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him.

If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell.
Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field.

Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell.

It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow.

As you stand and watch these two friends,
you'll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse,
and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk
to where the other horse is,
trusting that he will not be led astray.

When the horse with the bell returns
to the shelter of the barn each evening,
it stops occasionally and looks back,
making sure that the blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses,
God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect
or because we have problems or challenges.

He watches over us and even brings others into our lives
to help us when we are in need.

Sometimes we are the blind horse
being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives.

People are complicated animal...

Just want to say that I've totally been wrong about judging people from little information that I know. Really appreciate those people who work without judging other people. There are a few believes that I hold dear to and have serve me well in certain circumstances seems to prove me wrong in the others...

My sincere apologies to those who I have intentionally/unintentionally judged and apology to myself too for missing out of so much things, mental/physical in life because of my ill-judgment on things in life.

Will try to be more open, mind and physical...though I know it's hard to do....but life is always about experiencing and having the ability to learn from our mistakes and think/improvise.

Scenario 1:
Intimidating professor asks questions.

My reaction:
Should I answer this? Uhm...if I answer this nicely, I will earn point for my class participation and this will eventually contribute to my point.

My alter ego:
The answer is so obvious...do I need to even think and answer?

As time pass, my chances if answering diminishes due to:-
1. This is really no brainer question...am I at the right class...
2. Shit, if I don't asnwer according to what he's looking for, he will not call me ever again...to answer any questions in class.
3. Some smart ass classmates just took my point or said something that is close to what I meant...

Me wanting to be nice and do not want to waste other people's time think that I better not answer such questions or entertain this professor.

Scenario 2:
Nice professor asking questions in class...

My reaction:
Shit, this question is so easy, I can answer that, but I'm not sure...coz I didn't spend much time reading the assigned reading as this professor is nice/not intimidating enough...

shit, opportunity wasted.

My alter ego:
I came to MBA class expecting to learn something much, and I have a 1st class honors in decision science, pass my CFA, pass my PKMC (dealer exam), will be attempting FRM...and this is what you are teaching me? No value add? So, what am I doing in this class??? I am not going to answer your stupid questions...

and THIS kind of thoughts went through mw for the whole 2 hours of the class with me getting agry and angrier by the second...shit, luckily I was paid to do this...if not, I would have leave and just do my MSc in Financial Engineering at UK...which is offering me full scholarship too...

Scenario 3:
Who ever he/she is professing...

My reaction:

I am too sleepy to concentrate on what you said. Can you please stop lecturing and let us go home?

My alter ego:

This is so lame, can you asks me more challenging questions? coz you bored me to death and I am half asleep here dy...asks things that is hard, so that I can prove how intelligent I am and how stupid my fellow classmates are...

hahaha....

Scenario 4:
I was called to answer question

My reaction:
Mind went blank...all the "powerful" speeches/rationals that I have in my head vaporized...and all the outcome is some comments that I don't think clearly represent what I wanted to say.

My alter ego:
Are people getting what I am saying? Why nobody seems happy to hear my comment? Is my answer so bad or do I have problem making people understand what I am trying to say?

Scenario 5:
Didn't raise up my hand coz I think the answer I have in mind is too lame.

My reaction:
Well...never mind, maybe my opinion does not matter.

Eventually, the answer that the professor give is exactly the same as what I was thinking...

My alter ego: Wanting to kick myself at the head for not saying it out loud in class...and now I have to bear the anguish inside coz the professor said nobody think of it...well yea...because I didn't say anything, I am indeed NOBODY...

Scenario 6:
I answer the question nicely and a few minutes later another person talk about it either exactly the same way or similarly and draw appreciative sign, nods, and ohh ahh from others.

My reaction:
uhm, isn't this what I said? Am I not saying it clear enough? Am I not getting through people?

My alter ego:
Shit, didn't anyone understand what I was saying? or was I talking rubbish? Demotivate, demotivated...

and you know what? I am just starting to feel myself getting lazier and demotivated. Shitlar, there goes my grade...I have always been 1 4 flater...and I know for sure now, I will not be becoz of this stupid system and my unyielding emotion and personality that don't allow me to change as much and as soon as I can.

Lazier:
1. No point in preparing cases late into the night....why? coz even if you want to speak up, the professor may not notice you and call on you.
2. So what if I don't speak in class? That does not mean I am inferior to anyone else in class...it's better than some people who only know how to talk and not how to work...I hate these people the most.

Demotivate:
1. Do I come here to talk myself out of college or am I here to learn something new? Coz besides feeling tired all time, I don't think I learn something new.
2. Am I making the correct choice in coming for MBA, instead of going for MSc at Imperial College of London or forgoing my chance to work in IPS Sandario with a month income of RM9k?

Well...guess it's too late to complain this much right? Shitlar...really shit...

孩子小的時候，我們的生活平淡而單純，
最大樂趣是上街壓馬路。

在漫長婚姻生活中，甜言蜜語只能當作點綴，
偶爾給一成不變的日子爆些小火花；
老公對我的好，並不光靠一張嘴，他的體貼表現在實際行動上。
每逢冬天，我的手腳總是冰冷，
睡覺前，老公一定搶先跳上床，把我的位置躺暖了，
才叫我窩進去，又用他熱呼呼的大腿夾住我的雙腳，

走路也不再彎腰駝背，而是如空姐般閃現自信的光采。

今天早上，老公上班之前，在門口玄關與我擁抱，
輕聲說：「為什麼我總是如此迷戀著妳？」
啊！我才想問老公：

It's Autumn at Tokyo

This will be my first experience of autumn in Tokyo...Today the weather drop down to 21 Celsius...that's really cold...but I swear it's colder than that when the wind blow...especially with the downpour this morning that continue to the evening, after my class...

Was wearing my cool looking coat for winter actually...to school and my classmates was like looking at me and laughing like hell...haha...well...I'm really cold, are you kidding me...my tolerance level I guess it's around 23 Celsius...without the wind blowing of course...which is impossible...

God bless the earth and weather please...sometimes the weather seems to be so unpredictable that I really think the /Armageddon is coming...religious or not...think if we don't take precaution to take care of the earth...it's not going to last any longer...I have already nieces/small kids who questions about the existence of real life chicken other than the one they eat-KFC...uhm...that's just sad...

Foundation week is nearing to an end this Friday...it has been a fresh week where the weight of the study actually bored down on us...I need to really examine myself and overcome the shyness to speak in class as our class participation really contribute to our grade...I am not so used to this system...can't say I like it...yea...who like changes...I guess no one does...have to try...

Anyway, there's a park that is near our school...about 5-10 minutes walk and it's absolutely gorgeous...if my daily schedule isn't so pack then, I would really love to take a study break or even study here...

On that matter, why do people go for grad study? Do they actually want to learn something? Take a break from work or just want to have fun? I used to think that learning is fun but not after our foundation week...it seems like the school is very rigid in certain thing...Grade is something near to my heart but it all seems so fragile now...

We also have a brief introductory sessions of all 57 of our classmates and it's incredible...I'm really very impressed with all my classmates...they are all very much internationally and cross culturally diversified...and a distinguished/excellence track record of intelligence and smartness...hopefully I will be able to contribute as much as I would be able to learn from them...

Think I watched this on tv when I was in high school...didn't know this movie actually garnered so many awards back then. I didn't think this movie is really that good but it does got me thinking. My summary of this movie is love=need and the ultimate love is the kind of love like what a parent show his/her children...no matter how bad the situation go or how things turn out to be, we still want the best for them. The kind of need that transcends the need for you to change the person, that you will still love him/her for what they are, for better or worse, irregardless of where or who they are, near or apart...and the feeling that your world will not be complete or is tasteless, senseless without them...that's what love is, and should be.

This is another great movie. Won and nominated for several awards...a must see movie...bit quirky and unusual...not the normal commercial movie that you would expected. Great!

Amélie is the story of Amélie Poulain, a girl who grows up isolated from other children. Raphaël, her taciturn, antisocial ex-Army doctor father, mistakenly believes that she suffers from a heart condition (a mistake, in fact, resulting from the increase in her heartbeat caused by the rare thrill of physical contact with her father, who only ever touches her during medical check-ups). Her mother Amandine, a neurotic schoolteacher with shaky nerves, sees to Amélie's education. Amandine dies when Amélie is young, the victim of a freak accident involving a suicidal Québécoise woman who throws herself off the top of Notre Dame Cathedral and lands on Amélie's mother. Raphaël withdraws even further as a result, and devotes his life to building a rather eccentric shrine in the garden in Amandine's memory, which houses her ashes. Left to amuse herself, Amélie develops an unusually active imagination.

When she grows up, Amélie becomes a waitress in a small Montmartre café, The Two Windmills, run by a former circus performer. The café is staffed and frequented by a gang of eccentrics. She escorts a blind man to the Metro station, giving him a rich description of the street scenes he passes. She persuades her father to follow his dream of touring the world by stealing his garden gnome and having an air-hostess friend send pictures of it from all over the world. She matches a co-worker with one of the customers in the bar. She convinces the unhappy concierge of her building that the husband who abandoned her had in fact sent her a final love letter just before his death. She supports Lucien, the young man who works for Mr. Collignon, the bullying owner of the neighbourhood green grocer. By playing practical jokes on Collignon she undermines his confidence until he questions his own sanity.

However, while she is looking after others, Mr Dufayel is observing her and begins a conversation with her about his painting. He has repeatedly painted the same piece because he cannot quite capture the excluded look of the girl drinking a glass of water. They repeatedly discuss the meaning of this character and although it is never explicitly said, she comes to represent Amélie and her lonely life. Through their discussions Amélie is forced to examine her own life and her attraction to a stranger, a quirky young man who collects the discarded photographs of strangers from passport photo booths, with whom she has never spoken. She begins to observe him from a distance and is on the scene to pick up his photo album when he drops it in the street. She discovers his name is Nino Quincampoix, and she plays a cat and mouse game with him around Paris before eventually anonymously returning his treasured album; however, she is too shy to actually approach him, and almost loses hope when, having finally attempted to orchestrate a proper meeting, she misinterprets events when he enters into a conversation with one of her co-workers. It takes Raymond Dufayel's insightful friendship to give her the courage to overcome her shyness and finally meet with Nino, and the two begin a relationship.

This is a real story...sometimes we are too selfish that we keep on thinking what people did wrong to us, how people mistreat us, how unfair the world is and we just want to leave all this behind and start on our own journey, the way we want it, the way it's meant to be...to find out own happiness...

Somehow, we will not be able to find that happiness, the way we want it anywhere...sometimes our happiness is just around us, not somewhere far away. We just need to realize that and start changing our perception on thing...true, we feel happy leading the life the way we want...but true happiness is not just about us, it's about sharing your life and making it meaningful to the people around you also...True happiness is when you know that people whom you love and love you the most are happy too...this is what and how I feel after 27 years in this world...sometimes it's hard...because each of us has our selfish side to take care of, but it's true...we just need to remind ourselves once in a while...

I really appreciate the movie version more than the book...
The movie paint a more fast paste, no nonsense and more colorful character than portrayed in the original book version...
Mind you, I was so caught up in classical novel written by Jane Austin that I was once commented by my class teacher that my English essay was a bit too "old" for her taste...anyway, I still like the book, just that I can't find any fault in the movie version too...
