Freaking Sun glasses

I was so angry today...
1st that shit M of mine assigned us to do some assignment that I am not really interested to do...as if that's something interesting to do about that...
Do you have the experience of hiding your talents and some skills just to avoid doing job and you are so frustrated when somehow people find out and they expect extra of you to deliver...shitlar...that's the situation I am in now...

Secondly, I read some shitty posts on the blog today...not that my blog is anything better than that...but after an awful day at work, you would hope to hear, listen, see something nicer and the worst thing you would want to see is some shitty posts blogging about shitty politics and economics turmoil we are in now...common, people always argue and complain but are they contributing anything differently than those who they condemn?!

Damn, after all the bad day, I stumble into the only console of my day...NuffNang Gift Ideas at http://static.realmart.com.my/RealMart/Blog/index.html. I have an idea, just buy a pair of Bloody hot sunglasses at a good price from RealMart - http://www.realmart.com.my/product.php?id=ETLL00123. Put it on, besides looking hot, you can avoid eyes contact with the people you dislike in the world, the bad news that splash on our newspaper everyday and the mindless routine work that you need to do at work...

Yeah...my ideal gift to all you Nuffnangers and all out there, try a pair of Sun Glasses on for your gift idea!!!

Strong quake shakes east coast of Japan

Just when I am about to depart to Japan on Sep11 this year....
Never experience earthquake before, hope when it happen, I will be not too dumb-struck to save my own life...

Darn...

updated 1:22 a.m. ET July 19, 2008

TOKYO - A strong earthquake with a preliminary 6.6 magnitude struck off of Japan's eastern coast Saturday, the country's meteorological agency said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The 11:39 a.m. quake, which occurred off the coast of Fukushima prefecture about 150 miles northeast of Tokyo, was followed by several aftershocks.

The quake, which struck about six miles below the ocean's surface, shook buildings as far away as Tokyo.

The agency issued a tsunami warning for parts of Japan's eastern coast, but the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu said there was no broad threat in the Pacific.

However, earthquakes of this magnitude can generate local tsunamis that can be destructive within a 60-mile range, the tsunami center said.

"There are no reports of damage, but tsunamis are still a threat and so we have evacuated the beaches. There were a lot of people out because the weather was so nice today," said Toshihiko Keiokawa, a policeman near where the quake hit.

He had no immediate estimate on the number of evacuees.

Surfers were brought in to land in neighboring Miyagi Prefecture, where there were also no reports of damage or injury, said Norio Watanabe, a local police spokesman.

Japan sits atop four tectonic plates and is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries.

Last month a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck sparsely populated rural areas in northern Japan, killing at least 12 people, leaving 10 others missing and injuring more than 300.

Cambodia says Thai troops violate territory

PREAH VIHEAR, Cambodia - Cambodia has informed the U.N. Security Council that Thai forces have violated its territory near an ancient World Heritage Site temple where hundreds of troops continued to face off Sunday.

Cambodia's permanent mission in New York submitted a letter to the chairman of the Security Council and the chairman of the General Assembly to "draw their attention to the current situation on the Cambodian-Thai border," Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said.

"Cambodia is not asking for U.N. intervention. We still stick to Prime Minister Hun Sen's instructions to try to solve the problem peacefully between the two sides," the minister told reporters in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh.

It was unclear when the letter was submitted.

World Heritage site
The conflict over territory surrounding Preah Vihear temple escalated when UNESCO recently approved Cambodia's application to have the complex named a World Heritage Site. Thai activists fear the new status will undermine Thailand's claim to nearby land since the border has never been demarcated.

Troops from the opposing forces were on the brink of a shoot-out Thursday night, which was avoided when Cambodians retreated from a site occupied by the Thais.

Opposing commanders and their troops have tried to defuse tensions, sometimes even sharing meals, snapping photographs and sleeping within easy sight of one another.

A Cambodian general, meanwhile, said he had little hope that upcoming talks between his government and Thailand will resolve the tense border dispute.

Cambodian Brig. Gen. Chea Keo said Thai troops have deployed an artillery piece about half a mile northeast of Preah Vihear temple — the latest escalation ahead of Monday's meeting aimed at averting a military confrontation.

"Regarding the talks tomorrow, we have little hope about the outcome," Chea Keo said.

He said the reason for his pessimism stems from a recent counterclaim by Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej that the area around a Buddhist pagoda near the historic temple belongs to Thailand. Thai troops have been stationed at the pagoda since Tuesday.

'Encroached on our territory'
Hun Sen wrote a letter to Samak on Thursday saying relations had been "worsening" since Thai troops "encroached on our territory," and asked him to pull them back.

Responding to his Cambodian counterpart, Samak said the area around the pagoda referred to in the letter "is within the Thai territory," according to a statement Saturday from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

While urging both sides to exercise restraint, Samak's letter said the settlement of Cambodians in that area constitutes "a continued violation of Thailand's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

Despite their pledge to hold talks Monday in Thailand to try to defuse the tensions, both Cambodia and Thailand have massed troops at the site.

"We continue to be on alert at all time. And at the same time, we keep instructing our soldiers to be patient and avoid being blamed for starting a war," Chea Keo said Sunday.

The dispute has taken a toll on tourism in the area, with the Thai side closed to visitors. It also is starting to hurt economic relations between the two neighbors.

Shocking, it's like history happening all over again...politics...yucks...they should go and read up their history...

The Lake House

Kate Forster is a Doctor in 2006, living in Chicago alone. She has moved into an apartment after living in a house built next to a scenic lake in a secluded countryside area. She writes a letter to the next tenant asking that they forward any mail, and that the paw prints and the box in the attic have always been there. The tenant Alex Wyler reads the letter, but finds no paw prints, no box and no sign of life within the last 5 years, so disregards the letter until a few days later when he is redoing the paint on the handrails and a stray dog, whom Alex takes in and names Jack although the dog is female, trots through the brown paint and leaves its paw prints all the way to the front door. He writes to Kate asking more about these incidents and leaves the letter in the mail box.

On Valentines Day 2006, Kate visits the Lake House after having a gentleman die in her arms after being hit by a bus, but finds the Mail Box Flag is up. She reads Alex's letter and states her current address, also stating it is 2006, not 2004 which is the date that Alex's letter arrives from. Alex attends her 'current address' but finds a construction site that wont be finished for another 18 months, and they both slowly realise they are communicating from 2 years apart, with only the Mailbox to communicate from. As Kate and Alex continue to correspond through the mailbox, they find themselves falling in love. Because Kate is in the future, she can tell Alex specific places to look for her in 2004. On one occasion, she asks Alex to bring her back something important (a gift from her father; her favorite novel by Jane Austen called Persuasion), which she left two years ago during a train station meeting with her then-beau, Morgan. Alex goes to the station and finds the item and sees Kate with long hair. Even though he has the item, he does not place it in the mailbox to return it to her. Instead, he says that he will return it to her personally, "one way or the other." Alex sends her a personalized map of Chicago and takes her on a walking tour of his favorite places in the city one Saturday morning. He leaves her a loving message on a brick wall at the end written in 2004, that she sees in 2006. The message was "Kate, I am here with you. thank you for spending this Saturday together".

In 2004, Alex is being flirted with by Mona, a young attractive assisstant, but ignores her advances, when Jack runs off and finally stops at a house in which Morgan and Kate are currently living. Alex talks with Mrgan and eventually becomes invited to the birthday party Morgan is holding for Kate that evening. During the party, Alex and Kate dance together and share a romantic kiss, which is broken up by Morgan and Mona. Later, Kate and Alex discuss that night and Kate announces she liked him, and can remember what he looks like.

Crisis enters Alex's life when his estranged father has a heart attack and shortly thereafter dies. Kate somehow discovers his death certificate at the time he dies. She rushes to the mailbox and as a gift to Alex, she places a book in the mailbox, which she says is a tribute to his father, a book that is not yet published in Alex's time.

Determined to bridge the distance between them at last and unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary connection, they tempt fate by arranging to meet. Alex makes a reservation in 2004 for a date in 2006 at Il Mare, a fancy restaurant, but only Kate appears. Alex does not show up. The next day Kate writes Alex a letter telling Alex of this fact, but he doesn't understand. "Something must have happened" he responds. Kate retreats, believing she will never have happiness. She urges Alex to move on She tells him about Valentine's Day 2006 when a man died "in her arms", and that she needs to live her own life. She asks Alex not to contact her again. Alex leaves her a growing pile of letters in the mailbox that she never retrieves. He is brokenhearted and decides to leave the lake house. He places the box in the attic that Kate referred to in her first letter.

Alex appears to Morgan and hands him the keys to the lake house and exits in his truck, leaving Jack behind and having her become Kates dog.

Almost one year passes.

In December 2007 Kate and Morgan are living together in Kates (same current address) Chicago apartment and when he asks her to turn the film she is watching down, she switches it off and storms into the bedroom where a squeaky foorboard irritates her, so she rips it out and discovers her copy of Persuasion, with a pressed and faded rose marks a passage that Kate is particularly touched by. She realises she still loves Alex, but does not contact him.

On Valentines Day 2008, Kate and Morgan go to Visionary Vanguard Associates, an upcoming architects office, to talk about renovations to the apartment they are going to purchase, but do not realise it is run by Alex's brother Harry. Kate notices a beautiful watercolour of the Lake House and asks who did it. Harry says it was done by Alex Wyler, his brother, but tells her he passed away 2 years ago to the day. Kate realises something and sprints to her car and races to the mailbox by the Lake House, placing a letter inside. Alex was the man that died that day, two years previously, and she tells him to wait 2 years, not to look for her or try to find her. Kate knows that Alex can't change her reality what has happened in Kate's reality has happened. In order for Kate's and Alex's reality to merge, Alex must meet Kate at the Lake House on February 14th 2008.

In 2006, Alex watches as Kate has lunch with her mother, and makes to step off the curb, then watches as the bus that was going to hit him passes by instead. He smiles to himself and, instead of crossing the street, walks away from Kate.

In 2008, the Mail Box Flag squeakily drops and Kate, previously sobbing on the ground, watches it in earnest, and behind her a truck pulls up. Out steps Alex. They share their second passionate embrace and after several minutes walk arm in arm into the Lake House. Alex hands to her, what appears to be, a Valentines Day card.

Shitlar

Argh...I am so tired of taking exams...

Just did my quiz on the Harvard Business School (HBS) school webpage and score badly...
Need to complete the quiz above 75% so that I can skip doing the tutorial and exam...
u know how much I score? 72%...Damn...

Shitlar...I don't feel like doing this exam, now I have to do the tutorial and spend probably 25 hours on it (as written there in the website) and I still have not do the past year exam question for my Foreign Exchange paper for the PKMC exam (Work related) for the Monday discussion group.

Yesterday, I browse through the pre-enrollment package details for my postgrad studies and find out that besides the requirement to finish and score >75% for the HBS webpage, I need to sit for an 1 hour exam when I arrive for orientation in Tokyo. Shitlar...thought it will be all over after I finish the HBS exam, now only realize that there are more to it...

Somemore, have one more assignment that I have not finish on Finance...argh...maybe I should just put off the PKMC exam and do it later after I came back from Tokyo...and FRM, I haven't prepare anything on it...shitlar...

Darfur Update - June 2008

June 2008

Introduction

To download the briefing paper as a pdf, please click here.

As the conflict in Darfur enters its sixth year, conditions continue to deteriorate for civilians. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed, even by the most conservative estimates. The United Nations puts the death toll at roughly 300,000, while the former U.N. undersecretary-general puts the number at no less than 400,000.(1) Up to 2.5 million Darfuris have fled their homes and continue to live in camps throughout Darfur, or in refugee camps in neighboring Chad and the Central African Republic. Based on Sudan’s behavior over the past five years, it is clear that unless the international community imposes additional political costs for Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir’s intransigence, his government will continue to buy time by accepting initiatives only to backtrack later or impose new conditions that render them useless.

Humanitarian assistance in Darfur continues to be at risk of collapse, in part because of sustained harassment by the Sudanese government, and in part because of the government’s militia allies and common criminals. In September 2006, the United Nations estimated that such a collapse would cause up to 100,000 civilian deaths every month.(2) Troublesome developments suggest that such a failure is becoming more likely: the World Food Program’s Humanitarian Air Service received no funding in the first three months of 2008.(3) Last-minute donations totaling six million dollars funded it through the beginning of May. (4)

In the second half of 2007, the Sudanese government’s divide-and-conquer strategy, described by Human Rights Watch as “chaos by design,”(5) caused an increasingly frenzied free-for-all in Darfur. Rebel groups fragmented further and criminal activity as well as intertribal fighting increased exponentially.(6) Still, the effects of tribal fighting should not be overemphasized. Of the eight largest displacements between January and November 2007, seven resulted from government or Janjaweed attacks. Only one was the result of intertribal fighting.(7) In early 2008, deaths and displacements from military operations by the government, its allied militias and rebels were even more common relative to those caused by tribal conflicts.

It's late at night

Aint's our life a busy bee?

It's late at night...it's been a while since I've just sit down quietly at night with beautiful melody and songs playing in the background...feeling that i am completely alone in this world, own it and is in control of it...

Life has been a spiral of to do list nowadays...at work and at home...been busy preparing for my departure to Japan this September, the to-buy-list don't seems to shrink even the date of departure are getting nearer and nearer...

Passion for work has dwindle day by day...going to work is just a mere responsibility, staying back late to do work is just because I have promise to deliver and getting half baked truth/explanation about things at work is begin to be acceptable...Talking to boss just seems like a hard choir to do and my wish to be left alone just seems to grow day by day....

I like the night, the serenity of it...I am a night owl...I can stay late into the wee hours of the morning and happily hit the bed at 7am when the world is just started to get ready for the day...Friday night is the highlight of my week...i look forward to it so badly that every time my heart raced with happiness when Friday morning came...it's a real blessing...

I used to think that I would have given up anything in my life just to work instead of study...and while I am working...I swear that i promise myself that I would have given up anything in this world just to study again...and the 4 years that I have been out of school and in the working world actually bring on the desire to study again, hence the CFA Level 1, Level 2, PKMC, FRM, GMAT, GRE, TOEFL...I have my fare share of bad karma in the result department but most of it I sail through it gracefully enough...

Hoopefully for the next 1 year of study, I would have enough passion burning inside that the thought of wishing to work will cease to exist...God bless....

Top 10 Employers by MBA Graduates

Fortune, through a research done by research firm Universum, has listed a group of top and most desirable employers by MBA graduates.

In the poll, MBA students and graduates from recognized institutions are asked about companies they want to join the most. In a way, it is like a popularity contest of sort.

Universum is one of the firms specializing in employer branding, and was founded 20 years ago by a Swedish MBA student, Lars Henrik Friis Molin.

Lars Henrik also set up a job board, Jobline, which was later acquired by world’s largest online recruitment website, Monster.com in a multi-million dollar deal.

1. Google

Google Logo

If you think companies like Google only attract geeks rather than business graduates, think again. With more than 23% graduates surveyed choosing the company as their first choice, it disposed off other popular firms that were about to follow. However, places will be limited as Google places priority to hire top engineers first, so you may have to wait for a bit.

2. McKinsey & Company

McKinsey Logo

McKinsey & Company is a top notch management consulting firm, with offices scattered around the world. Vault.com has ranked McKinsey as the world’s number one consulting firm for 5 years in a row. Many of the company’s alumni went on to become CEOs for large multinationals such as IBM, BMW, PepsiCo, HSBC and so on. Global opportunity and startling career awaits successful job applicants.

3. Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs Logo

Goldman Sachs is an investment banking and management firm, which has been in existence since more than 130 years ago. The company’s global headquarter is located in Manhattan, New York, United States. Positions with Goldman comes with attractive salary, job flexibility, continual training and development programs and opportunity for international relocation.

4. Apple

Apple Logo

When Apple is mentioned, more often than not, Steve’s Job charismatic leadership comes into mind. From just a small outfit started at the back of his garage, Apple grew by leaps and bounds and in ten years, Steve surpassed all expectation after bringing the company’s size up to the 1 billion dollar mark. Apple’s products are in the standard of their own.

5. Boston Consulting Group

Boston Consulting Logo

Another management consulting firm, Boston Consulting Group is also a close rival to McKinsey. The company was founded by Bruce Henderson, a former graduate of Harvard Business School in 1963. He went on to grow the company and create Boston Consulting Group as a consulting firm of choice, and at one time eclipsed McKinsey to become the top recruiter at Harvard.

6. Bain & Company

Bain Company Logo

Bain and Company is yet another management consulting firm, with global head office located in Boston, Massachusetts, US. Interestingly enough, Bain was formed by a group of consultants, who were Boston Consulting Group partners. From just a small company, it grew to open new offices in London, Munich, San Francisco, Tokyo and other countries.

7. Walt Disney

Walt Disney Logo

Walt Disney is one of the most recognized entertainment companies in the world. Founded by the two brothers, Walter and Roy Disney, the company grew from making one pilot series, Alice’s Wonderland to becoming one of the Hollywood’s biggest studios. Who’d think a brand which is a craze among children has some of the brightest MBA graduates behind it.

8. Nike

Nike Logo

The Oregon-based sportswear maker is well-known for its motto - Just Do It! Nike not only has power in attracting top graduates, it can also leverage its huge spending budget by recruiting top athletes and sportsmen as their brand ambassadors. Some of the notable faces in the world of sports wearing Nike’s gears include Tiger Woods, Micheal Jordan, Thierry Henry, Paula Radcliffe and many more.

9. Deloitte

Deloitte Logo

Deloitte, a professional services firm, becomes the most attractive MBA employer ahead of the other 3 companies in the “Big Four” list, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PwC (PricewaterHouseCoopers). The company today employs roughly 165,000 professionals who are working across more than 140 countries worldwide, offering services to some of the world’s largest corporations.

Bloomberg ranked JP Morgan Chase & Co. as the 6th largest bank in the world for 2008, while Fortune listed the company as the 12th largest company in the United States by revenue for the same year. The company today offers investment banking, commercial and asset management to its customers.
