Friday, Beer and Me....

Friday-beer and me...I really adore Friday...and I guess everyone know why, how can you not? Friday and me is just like the feeling of falling in love for the first time, no matter how many times we already met, just can't get enough of each other...

Since I've start working 4 years ago, happy hour on every Friday night has been introduced to me. I was not into beer so much at first, but the companies of my fellow colleagues...as a freshmen, working life and my senior are so much of interest for me...

Now that I am a senior myself, beers seems to be a good sanctuary on every friday night and something that I am looking forward to. Drinking beer alone is definitely out of question, especially for a girl..naturally I am looking forward to friends arranging for a drinking session.

Lately, due to some personal issue, I have the urge of buying a bucket of beers and just drink the night away at home...waste myself away...I am not sure why do I feel that way lately or maybe I just don't want to acknowledge the issues that I am having now...

Anyway, beers seems to be a good idea of a fun party for me now. So everyone, cheers and Bottom Up please! Yea.

What do you do today?

Summary of a basic day....haha...

Drawing...

Uhm...recently went through my photo and found this one, think it's drawn 2 years ago on 2006. This is how my cupboard looks like...fill with food...any correct guess on the item in the drawing above will earn...uhm...something special from me...haha... Any takers?

Miss Gold-Digger (2008) (Korean)

Mi-Su Shin (Ye-seul Han) is beautiful and intelligent. She works as an advertising executive and also has a unique theory on dating that she uses to pick out her perfect man. Her secret is to have an open mind and meet as many different candidates as possible: an extremely wealthy man, nerdish grad student who may pass the ultra difficult Korean bar exam, an up-and-coming rapper, and a neighbor who can help her with a huge advertising project. She has each of these men wrapped around her finger, as she uses a chameleon like personas to fit in with each guy. She then tries to gage the potential of each of her suitors, but unfortunately for Mi-Su, her plan goes horribly awry as her web of indiscretion comes out into the open. Will there be a guy left for Mi-Su?

This is a very entertaining movie, enjoy it very much. It really does represent what part of me think...sometimes it is very hard to be yourself in front of the person you like, for better or worse you will be more prone to "behave" better than usual...

I guess that is still acceptable as long as you are portraying bits and pieces of who you are and not entirely a different person at all.

To all my friends, happy finding that significant part of yours...

Investment in Image consultation

I am not really a follower of fashion nor am myself fashionable. Although I realize the importance of marketing or packaging yourself to be more marketable or approachable. Nowadays, a lot of company offers the services of image consulting. They teach people like me (lazy people) how to "package" myself or carry myself.

Anyway, since I've been working and receiving salary, I have begin to realize the importance of branded stuff...Not that I become more fashionable but because the clothes nowadays cost a bomb even for the unbranded one. Since MYR 30 and MYR 70 is all under MYR100, I have gladly accept the challenge of trying and buying branded line. The quality does differ and it is more comfortable to wear. (However some does not differ much)...

I was having lunch with my colleague at Pasar Seni one day and having this conversation while passing through this second hand "branded" shop.

Fashionable Colleague (FC) : Saw this at XXX that day, the price seems not to differ much even it is a second hand shop...

Unfashionable Me (UM) looks at the window display and try to have a peek at the price tag (they always seems to hide the price tag in those small zippers..)

UM "gasp" silently after looking at the tag...

UM: Err...why are they so expensive? Is it because they last longer?

FC: Not really, they are just like normal bag, only they are branded..

UM: Oh...then why people like it so much?

FC: Uhm....it's branded....looks fashionable...actually I have the same question as you, asked my mum, she said I'll know when I am older...I guess now it's the time...haha...

UM: Oh...think some of the cheaper bags sold at the pasar malam looks nicer...

FC: Yea...agree...but it does make a different...imagine if you wear nice clothes with a nice bag walk into a shop compare to an equivalent nice dressed lady but with a normal bag...the impact is different...

UM: Yea...but it depends on where you go too...

FC: yeap...

At the end of our conversations, I realize that maybe it is the money factor coz we just have our bonus and we are just looking for ways to invest our money...maybe my colleague is right...there come a time when every one will want to do or buy something that other people are buying...it will not be because we are a blind spender or follower, just a mere sign of increase of our wallet and mentality change...

Yea, maybe, maybe one day you'll see me with a Gucci, Coach or LV bag.. :)

Outside my window

This is a photo taken outside my window...am going to Cambodia next month end, hopefully can take more nice photos...

"Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother." - Unknown

I am trying to digest the quote above, it is true in a way...but what if we never get married or do not have a child...or we do not have the privileges of adopting?

Hopefully everyone will have a nice week ahead...

Flowering investments

It's very rare to see a cactus flowering...it take times and also the right opportunity, time to captured this moment..

Somethings in life is like seeing a cactus flowering too...it's rare but not impossible. I guess now in this material world, money is the essence...I have invested part of my money in unit trust this year...I have been to various investment talks and never really did believe in unit trust coz it is something that depends on the performance of the underlying of your investments...if the underlying stock combination soar, the money you earn will soar and vice versa...the advantage is that it is less risky than buying a single stock...

The believes is to buy UT for long term purposes (3-5years), I have heard people loosing from this investments as well, so please don't left it for too long a period. Here is the link to the fund that I have invested in.

A Chinese Ghost Story...

Joey Wong enchants Leslie Cheung in A Chinese Ghost Story.

Year: 1987

Director: Ching Siu-Tung

Producer: Tsui Hark

Action: Ching Siu-Tung, Philip Kwok Chun-Fung, Tsui Chung-San, Wu Chi-Lung

Cast: Leslie Cheung Kwok-Wing, Joey Wong Cho-Yin, Wu Ma, Lau Siu-Ming, Lin Wei, David Wu Dai-Wai

The Skinny: The original supernatural action-comedy-romance-horror-swordplay flick!
Review
by Kozo:

Leslie Cheung stars as Ning, a meek tax collector who finds himself involved in a wacky supernatural romance. He's slated to become a victim to enchanting ghost Nie (Joey Wong), who's bound to an evil tree demon (Lau Siu-Ming) who feed on men's souls. Ning's soul is slated for consumption, but due to a variety of circumstances, he's prevented from becoming soul food. Even more, the comely Nie grows to care for Ning, and vice versa. Then roving ghostbuster Wu Ma shows up to take down spirits with his nifty Taoist methods. There's also impomptu singing, sumptuous production design, and a tree demon with an extraordinarily long tongue. What a great film!

However, the most compelling thing about A Chinese Ghost Story is probably its sheer cinematic energy. People fly, jump, and engage in situation comedy with little pause for breath, and whatever pauses that do occur are usually there to linger on Joey Wong's lovely face. That everything seems incredibly fake and staged is irrelevant. A Chinese Ghost Story is primo eighties Hong Kong Cinema, which means a complete disregard for any attempt at realism. Everything here is so hyperrealistic and over-the-top that it makes Hollywood musicals look like the very model of restraint.

Happy birthday Chicken Little...

You must be wondering who this chicken little is...chicken little...is one of my roommate...why? coz she has this chicken little pillow that she can't get rid of...once she was even angry with us over it...

Anyway, here's something to share:)
As I didn't obtain any permission from my roommates about blogging (blabbing) nor pasting their photo on this blog, hence this is just something that I think just past my self imposed censorship...haha...

The one who is cutting the cake is chicken little's bf...chicken little is the one with the white T-shirt-short hair. (oww...me? You can glimpse a piece of me...my orange bowl...waiting impatiently for the yummy cake...)

Tada...our gifts to CL...
Elianto...please pay me for advertising this....haha...

Photography

I always like photography. Been addicted to it since high school when I started to be a Sin Chew Jit Poh's Student Reporter, 1996, Form 3. Then I was the photographer for almost all our school's magazine and functions. I like the feeling of being behind lens and taking it all in to the memory of my film.

I have taken some good pictures and a few that I am very proud of.

In this picture, I am using my first digital camera, an Olympus to capture this photo. I like unconventional photography especially if taking my own picture.

Sometimes I feel that investing in a camera is somehow a way for me to look at this world in a different angle. It depends on what the lens are used and focused on, the lighting of the environment and sometimes the state of emotions when we snap that picture. I always treasure the moments taking photograph...I believe we should treat life the same way too...

Cheers!

President...

Someone asks me the question that if I am the president, what will I do...
This is a tough questions, especially that I never aspire to be one before... I guess with the presidential election running in the USA and the way the Junta handle the political and disaster in Myanmar, there is no easy way about it.

I think like any other jobs offered, there's a clear job descriptions, be responsible, take on your responsibilities and follow the job descriptions faithfully. You can improvised but never tweaked it to suit yourself.

Have your own principle and stick to it. Listen to the people, they are the reasons why you are here and what your job is all about.

Secondly, besides following the job descriptions, wisdom and experience is important. just like any other job, it is good to hire an educated person, but people with lots of experience and wisdom are needed too. If I am the president and if I lacked the wisdom or experience to run a country, I will surround myself with the wise men of the world, make sure they are really the expert in their relevant fields and listen to them more before making a decision.

Third and lastly, to be humble and be a team player. Some president are too monopoly in their approach to solving a problem. If I am the president, I will definitely remember who I am and where I come from. I become the president because people around me support me and rally for me, hence I will be humble and be a team player, not a dictator...

So, if you are a president, what will you do?

Chengdu's Earth quake

CNN) -- Crowds gathered in the devastated city of Chengdu shouted "Farewell, friends!" and "Rebuild!" as China began three days of national mourning Monday to honor the tens of thousands killed by last week's massive earthquake.

Chinese rescuers stand in silence as they mourn at a collapsed chemical factory.

The death toll in worst-hit Sichuan province, southwestern China, rose to at least 34,073 with another 245,109 people hurt, Chinese government officials said Monday. Authorities have estimated that the final death toll could reach 50,000, while millions more people have been left homeless by the disaster.

Traffic halted, work stopped and people bowed their heads across the country to observe three minutes of silence as air raid sirens, car, truck and train horns sounded a "wail of grief" at 2:28 p.m. (0628 GMT), exactly one week since the earthquake struck. Even rescue workers paused from the job of clearing debris and searching for survivors to mark the moment.

In Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, the three minutes was followed by shouts of support for the recovery effort, CNN correspondent Eunice Yoon said.

"During the moment of silence they were all holding hands, some of them were weeping... They are in a state of utter disbelief and utter shock that so many people have died," said Yoon.

It's terrible at what is happening now in our world. I think the environment is taking a revenge on us for taking them for granted for so long. Nevertheless, treasure the people around you as you will never know. Take care people. Tomorrow is a better day. Never lose hope.

Myanmar Nargis

In recent days, Myanmar has agreed to let in some foreign aid.

A U.S. Marine spokesman told CNN that the government had authorized five more U.S. flights to land in Myanmar with supplies. The flights will deliver 46 pallets loaded with bottled water, plastic sheeting and hygiene kits as well as crackers and powdered milk.

Three additional U.S. flights have already gone to Myanmar -- one on Monday and two on Tuesday. They carried food, mosquito netting and tarpaulins.

Meanwhile, Pentagon officials said the USS Essex, USS Juneau and USS Harpers Ferry are in international waters off the coast of the country, laden with more than 14,000 containers of fresh water and other aid and awaiting orders to deliver by air or landing craft.

On Wednesday, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown asked U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to convene an emergency summit on Myanmar aid. Ban has blasted the reclusive regime for what he called an "unacceptably slow response" to the disaster, and called, "in the most strenuous terms, on the government of Myanmar to put its people's lives first."

Ban is scheduled to arrive in Myanmar on Wednesday for a three-day visit. He planned to visit the areas most affected by the May 2 storm -- especially the Irrawaddy Delta in southern Myanmar -- also known as Burma, the UN said in a release.

Hope that everything will be getting better over there. They should have let the aids come in much more earlier...

Pets

Used to go to pet shop as a dating place with my bf. Since we have separated, every time I visited any pet shops I will naturally think of him. I was young then, didn't know how to appreciate our relationship. Was ambitious, want to take over the world and am not happy being tied down in a relationship.

However, it is a different story now, wish I have a partner to share my life with...although I may still be a bot selfish, I guess I will be more willing to sacrifice part of my time to be with another individual, as opposed to 3 years ago.

Recently visited Pet Wonderland in Mid Valley, they have great range of pets around. Now added to my list, who ever sing to me or buy me a cute pet, I will definitely marry him.... haha...ok guys, just kidding ya...uhm...maybe.... :)

12 monkeys

Personally, I think Brat Pitt did a good job here.

The year is 2035. A virus, deliberately released in 1996 in multiple locations around the world, has killed off five billion people. Survivors have established an elaborate underground civilization because the earth's surface is considered uninhabitable by humans. From time to time prisoners "volunteer" to don protective gear and gather specimens of insects from the surface to test for the presence of the virus.

One such prisoner is James Cole, who after retrieving samples is given the chance to go back in time to 1996 and find information about the group believed responsible, known as "The Army of 12 Monkeys." Throughout the ensuing episodes, Cole finds himself remembering, as if in dreams, various things that he witnessed as a child, including the killing of a man in an airport. This persists as a theme throughout the film.

Miscalculation sends Cole to 1990, and he finds himself incarcerated in an insane asylum. His psychiatrist, Kathryn Railly, thinks she has met him before, but his ravings are incoherent (to her), and eventually he is locked up with other lunatics. There he meets Jeffrey Goines, who is definitely off the wall, but who tries to help him escape. Eventually, Cole is snatched back to his present time, interrogated, and given a second chance to complete his mission. A second miscalculation sends him to the battlefields of World War I, where he is wounded in the leg.

However much the result of miscalculation these visits are, they prove instrumental. When the scientists of Cole's present finally succeed in sending him to 1996, Cole kidnaps Dr. Railly and tries to convince her that he is from the future. He finds that Jeffrey Goines, whose father is a famous virologist, is now out of the asylum, working for his father, and has formed "The Army of 12 Monkeys." Cole is now racing against time, and after a few mishaps, finally decides that he wants to stay in 1996 with Dr. Railly, surrendering to the inevitable destruction of human life.

By this time, Dr. Railly has become convinced that somehow, Cole knows something--his predictions of the outcome of minor events is too uncanny. The discovery of a World War I bullet in Cole's leg forces her to check a photograph taken on the battlefield which, impossibly, shows Cole in the trenches. She becomes convinced that "The Army of 12 Monkeys" indeed poses a threat, and she persuades Cole to take up his cause again.

An essential element in the communication between Cole's past and present is a telephone number where he can leave a message for the scientists of his own present. When Goines and his "Army" release all the animals in the zoo to roam the streets of New York, and then posts flyers declaring "We did it!" Cole realizes that the "Army" is not the threat, and he leaves a phone message to that effect. Another "volunteer" from Cole's present appears and congratulates him for being the one who set them on the right track for preventing the holocaust. He wants to help Cole return to the future, but Cole just wants to be with Dr. Railly, whom he has come to love.

Meanwhile, the police are after Cole for kidnapping Dr. Railly. In an airport, while attempting with Cole to elude capture, Dr. Railly recognizes Dr. Peters, who worked with Jeffrey Goines's father in the virology lab. Peters goes through airport screening and manages to persuade security that his biological samples--one for each of the many cities on his itinerary--are harmless. Dr. Railly alerts Cole, and they attempt to stop Peters. To Dr. Railly's horror, Cole is shot by the police while chasing Peters, who escapes to board his plane. Cole's death is witnessed by a boy named James, who is with his parents: the young Cole.

On the plane, Peters takes his seat--with the "biological samples" as his carry-on luggage--and gets into conversation with his fellow passenger, a woman who seems to us vaguely familiar. Identifying himself, he says he's on a business trip; she says she's "in insurance."

FRM, CFA and PKMC

Talking about investments, there are plenty educational opportunities out there which are related to investments. As for myself, I have taken these 3 exams as mentioned in my title.

FRM - Financial Risk Manager

This is exclusively for those who like to know more about risk and its application. Risk management are developing rapidly nowadays to contain risks in the companies, be it Market risk (risk due to changes of sentiments in the market, i.e. interest rate, monetary policies, economic policies, etc), operational risks (due to technicality issues, people, systems), credit (credit standings of a company, risk of default), legal risk (due to improper legal documentation), and etc.

CFA - Chartered Financial Analyst

This covers a wider area of investment compare to FRM. Anyone who is keen on being a fund manager or investment analyst should try this out. It is internationally recognized (so does FRM) and it's member are highly valued in the investment firms such as Merilyn Lynch, S&Ps, Bears and Sterns, Goldman Sachs (have an urge to spell all these names wrongly...hahah)..

PKMC - Persijilan Kewangan Malaysia

This is more applicable for Malaysian who aspire to be a dealer or work in treasuries dealing money market, FX, fixed income, derivatives, structured products and any tradable instruments as specified by Central Bank.

I have been through the last 2 and am currently preparing for FRM. God knows why I spend so much money on education, trying to find a better job, accumulate wealth (money wise) and knowledge wise just so that I can eanr enough money to be financial free and do away with a job...

I really think that we should love our jobs...but you know sometimes...it's not so easy...
cheers!

Diamond and marriage

Since we are in the topic of diamond, was thinking why not we touch a bit about marriage? Granted, this is not really a topic about investment, it is definitely an "investment" that every guy and girl have to go through...for the rest of their life.

Nowadays, with financial freedom and more emphasis on enjoying the essence of life, less and less people pay attention to the topic of marriage. Less and less people think of marraigae as something they must go through.

With the advancement of modern technology, i.e. internet, people seems to prefer cyber sex or cyber virtual life, gaming then having to interact with the real life individual. From here, rise the era of matchmaking, i.e. Facebook have Sparkey, most eligible singles, are you interested and as such, MSN has MSN matchmaking and etc, Cupid Touch ....there a lots and lots more...

I've personally believe in investment on a marriage, of finding a good partner for life, especially since I've come from a broken home, I believe that finding a person who share the same sentiments in life are important...so who knows....u might find your other half in one of the internet services as mentioned above?

Good luck and God bless!

For the love of Diamond

Strangely or not strangely enough, people die for the love of money. I, myself is not an exception. I slave for money even though I have read Robert Kiyosaki's , Donald Trump's and various other's self improvement books.

So, instead of plunging into real estate investment, I go for commodities. I love diamonds, golds and everything that shine. haha...who doesn't right? Diamond are expensive commodities when you buy it but when you wanna sell it, there's only a handful of buyers available. I would like to have it, but not desperate enough.

Now Gold, that's a different story. Part of my bonus recently just went to investing in Gold. Maybank Gold Saving's account options is a good investment choice. Of course, Public Bank is also offering it. The saving options is around the same. The minimum investment amount is 5grams, subsequent amount is 1gram. Nowadays Gold price fluctuate a lot, basically around MYR90 to MYR100. So, if you have extra money and do not plan to use it in the near future, you can try it.

Now, coming back to diamond... to my future husband out there, Diamond are a girl's best friend!

Investment

As I worked in the Bank as a market risk manager , I have decided to dedicate my blogger posts to investment related issues and my Xanga posts to my interests...like movie reviews and such...

Ok...what should I write first...
Ok, recently I just finished spending (or investing, if you like this word better) my bonus into various application of my life.

First, Fixed deposit. I am sure most of us know what a fixed deposit is...it is one of the safest investment vehicle in the world (if you don't figure in the inflation rate and such). In Malaysia, the range of interest pay on top of the deposit range from 3% to 3.70% (1 month to 12 months). The interest rate as per Mar 08 is at 2.8%, effectively, we are earning only 0.9% of our savings in FD. Well, the plus point is that it is capital protected. In fact, all our savings in the Bank are protected by PDIM Malaysia for a maximum amount of MYR60,000. So, let's say you already saved MYR60,000 in a Bank, please do consider saving the next MYR60,000 in another Bank.

FD is more for conservative people or fresh graduate...we are supposed to saved at least 6 months of your salary and don;t touch it...just for rainy days purposes. So FD naturally is a good choice. After FD, you can consider other investment vehicles, such as insurance, unit trust, shares, etc...

Let's talk about that in my next posts...

Austin Powers

Just watched Austin Powers yesterday night...first of all, it's a no-brainer, 2ndly, coz it's a no brainer that it is so funny...Watched it if you have nothing else to do...

Today is an holiday...I've visited my friend's blogger and amazed that some of them really make good money from their blogs.

I have currently 2 blogs, one in Xanga and another here. Well, I am contemplating doing the same as she does. Due to the limitation of Xanga, I may switch to post here instead...thinking about maintaining 2 blogs, maybe of different topic of interest...

Ok, let's see what happens in a few days time...

Ahh...holiday is a bliss...
