In the poll, MBA students and graduates from recognized institutions are asked about companies they want to join the most. In a way, it is like a popularity contest of sort.
Universum is one of the firms specializing in employer branding, and was founded 20 years ago by a Swedish MBA student, Lars Henrik Friis Molin.
Lars Henrik also set up a job board, Jobline, which was later acquired by world’s largest online recruitment website, Monster.com in a multi-million dollar deal.
1. Google
If you think companies like Google only attract geeks rather than business graduates, think again. With more than 23% graduates surveyed choosing the company as their first choice, it disposed off other popular firms that were about to follow. However, places will be limited as Google places priority to hire top engineers first, so you may have to wait for a bit.
2. McKinsey & Company
McKinsey & Company is a top notch management consulting firm, with offices scattered around the world. Vault.com has ranked McKinsey as the world’s number one consulting firm for 5 years in a row. Many of the company’s alumni went on to become CEOs for large multinationals such as IBM, BMW, PepsiCo, HSBC and so on. Global opportunity and startling career awaits successful job applicants.
3. Goldman Sachs
Goldman Sachs is an investment banking and management firm, which has been in existence since more than 130 years ago. The company’s global headquarter is located in Manhattan, New York, United States. Positions with Goldman comes with attractive salary, job flexibility, continual training and development programs and opportunity for international relocation.
4. Apple
When Apple is mentioned, more often than not, Steve’s Job charismatic leadership comes into mind. From just a small outfit started at the back of his garage, Apple grew by leaps and bounds and in ten years, Steve surpassed all expectation after bringing the company’s size up to the 1 billion dollar mark. Apple’s products are in the standard of their own.
5. Boston Consulting Group
Another management consulting firm, Boston Consulting Group is also a close rival to McKinsey. The company was founded by Bruce Henderson, a former graduate of Harvard Business School in 1963. He went on to grow the company and create Boston Consulting Group as a consulting firm of choice, and at one time eclipsed McKinsey to become the top recruiter at Harvard.
6. Bain & Company
Bain and Company is yet another management consulting firm, with global head office located in Boston, Massachusetts, US. Interestingly enough, Bain was formed by a group of consultants, who were Boston Consulting Group partners. From just a small company, it grew to open new offices in London, Munich, San Francisco, Tokyo and other countries.
7. Walt Disney
Walt Disney is one of the most recognized entertainment companies in the world. Founded by the two brothers, Walter and Roy Disney, the company grew from making one pilot series, Alice’s Wonderland to becoming one of the Hollywood’s biggest studios. Who’d think a brand which is a craze among children has some of the brightest MBA graduates behind it.
8. Nike
The Oregon-based sportswear maker is well-known for its motto - Just Do It! Nike not only has power in attracting top graduates, it can also leverage its huge spending budget by recruiting top athletes and sportsmen as their brand ambassadors. Some of the notable faces in the world of sports wearing Nike’s gears include Tiger Woods, Micheal Jordan, Thierry Henry, Paula Radcliffe and many more.
9. Deloitte
Deloitte, a professional services firm, becomes the most attractive MBA employer ahead of the other 3 companies in the “Big Four” list, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PwC (PricewaterHouseCoopers). The company today employs roughly 165,000 professionals who are working across more than 140 countries worldwide, offering services to some of the world’s largest corporations.
10. JP Morgan
JP Morgan was a US-based investment banking before acquired by Chase Manhattan Bank to become JP Morgan Chase & Co. in 2000. Bloomberg ranked JP Morgan Chase & Co. as the 6th largest bank in the world for 2008, while Fortune listed the company as the 12th largest company in the United States by revenue for the same year. The company today offers investment banking, commercial and asset management to its customers.
